Main Patch Map Switch

Map switching for Simos 8.5 (3.0 TFSI V6): two to five map slots, selected from the cruise control stalk, the turn signal lever or the drive mode. Each slot carries its own torque limit and spark offset maps, sets pops & bangs strength and switches Launch Control on or off.
Available for S85K30, S85L00, S85L10 and S85L20.

Map switching

Number of map slots (2..5) sets how many slots UP and DOWN browse through — anywhere from two to five. A value outside that range uses all five.
Selecting a slot
Hold the button assigned to Mapswitch — CANCEL by default — for Hold time to open map selection. Once the hold completes, the rev counter shows the current slot: Map 1 at 1000 rpm, Map 2 at 2000 rpm and so on. UP and DOWN step through the slots, SET commits immediately. 0 uses the default of 2000 ms.
Selection window — the idle time after which the displayed slot is committed. The timer restarts on every UP or DOWN press. 0 uses the default of 5000 ms.
Show map on rev counter after start — holds the rev counter at the active slot number for this many seconds after the engine starts, so the driver can see which map is loaded. An open map selection takes priority. 0 turns it off.
Axes
There are no axes to set up. The torque limit maps use the stock axes, and the spark offset uses the same rpm and load axes as the stock basic ignition maps.

Button assignment

The cruise control buttons and the turn signal lever can be pointed at the map switch.
CANCEL button — None or Mapswitch (hold to open map selection). Default: Mapswitch.

RESUME button — the same two options. Default: None.

SET button — the same two options. Default: None.

UP and DOWN always step through an open selection, and SET always confirms it.
Turn signal lever — None or Mapswitch. At standstill, tap the indicator left, then right, to open map selection. Right steps to the next slot, left to the previous one, and the shown slot is committed after the selection window. Default: None.

Drive mode profile

The active slot can follow the drive mode selected in the car instead of, or in addition to, the buttons.
Map follows drive mode — On loads the slot assigned to the drive mode profile in the table below. Off leaves slot selection to the buttons. Default: Off.
Profile table
One entry per profile: Normal, Efficiency, Ice, Sport, Offroad and Sport+. Each is set to Map 1 to Map 5, or to No change to keep whichever slot is active.
In Efficiency the ECU uses the slot's Torque Limit ECO map — see What each map slot holds.

What each map slot holds

Every slot carries the same 8 parameters, so each one is a complete configuration rather than an offset from a base map.
Torque limit maps
The maximum torque at the clutch while the slot is active — the main power map the map switch chooses between. Each replaces the stock limit for all power classes and uses the stock axes:

• Torque Limit AT — automatic and dual-clutch transmission
• Torque Limit MT — manual transmission
• Torque Limit ECO — the Efficiency drive mode. It only applies when the Efficiency torque limit is enabled, which it is not in the stock S85L20 calibration.
Fill in the maps that match the car in front of you. An automatic car never reads the MT map, and a manual never reads the AT one.
Spark offset — an ignition trim added to the stock basic ignition angle by rpm and load (mg/stk). Positive advances, negative retards, 0 is stock timing, limited to ±15°. It applies to both cylinder banks and to lean and rich operation.
Pops & bangs
Pops & bangs — switches overrun crackle on or off in this slot. The stock rpm, temperature and coasting conditions still decide when it fires.

Pops duration — crackle duration as % of OEM; 100 % is unchanged. It scales the impulse combustion activation time.

Pops intensity — crackle intensity as % of OEM; 100 % is unchanged. It scales the impulse combustion spark angle.
Launch Control — arms Launch Control in this slot. Default: Off.

Launch Control

Launch Control holds engine speed for a standing start with ignition retard, a torque cap, a rotating cylinder cut and the rev limiter. It is armed per map slot with the slot's Launch Control switch. Build revs with the brake held (dual-clutch) or the clutch in (manual) and the throttle floored. There is no launch on torque-converter automatics or CVTs.
Max rpm — the engine speed held during the launch.

Ignition angle — the ignition angle held during the launch. It only ever retards: more retard gives a steadier hold and more exhaust heat.

Max torque — a ceiling on the torque request while the launch is held. It only ever reduces torque.

Ramp in — the time over which the launch ignition angle fades in. It is released instantly when you launch.
Cylinder cut
Three cut levels, each starting a set distance below Max rpm. The cut gets heavier with each level:

• Cut level 1 start — 2 of 6 cylinders cut
• Cut level 2 start — 3 of 6 cylinders cut
• Cut level 3 start — 4 of 6 cylinders cut

A bigger value brings the cut in earlier and softer, a smaller one later and harder. Level 3 should be the smallest. 0 uses the defaults of 200, 100 and 50 rpm.
Rev-limit cut — how the launch holds the rev limit. Fuel cut (default) stops injection on the cut cylinders: clean, with no raw fuel. Spark + fuel cut switches the coils off below Max rpm and keeps injecting for a louder crackle, then from Max rpm stops injection on one more cylinder for every 25 rpm over, so the rpm is held firmly. The unburnt fuel reaches the exhaust and heats the catalytic converters.

Rev limiter margin — how far above Max rpm the OEM rev limiter sits during the launch. The cylinder cut holds Max rpm and the limiter only catches an overshoot. Too small, and the limiter takes over and the launch bounces slowly. 0 uses the default of 400 rpm.
Arming
Max speed to arm — launch only arms below this road speed, so it is a standing-start feature and cannot be triggered while rolling. 0 uses the default of 5 km/h.

Brake pressure to arm — dual-clutch only: the brake pressure that arms the launch. It is the hydraulic pressure reported by the ESP, not the brake light switch. 0 uses the default of 5 bar.

Minimum oil temperature and Minimum coolant temperature — launch will not arm on a colder engine.

Blink MIL on knock

The check-engine lamp can flash when the ECU pulls ignition for knock, which makes knock visible from the driver's seat without a laptop connected.
Flash MIL on knock — turns the feature on. Off means the lamp is never driven for knock.

Knock threshold, mean retard — blinks when the averaged knock retard across cylinders reaches this much retard.

Knock threshold, per-cylinder retard — blinks when any single cylinder's knock retard reaches this much retard.

Blink hold time after knock — how long the lamp keeps blinking after the last event that crossed a threshold, so brief events stay visible. 0 means it never blinks.

Blink half-period — half the blink cycle in ms; smaller flashes faster. 0 uses the default of 250 ms.
Both thresholds are retard values, so they are negative — more negative only warns on heavier knock. Setting a threshold to its minimum of −48° turns that trigger off. The mean threshold catches a trend across the engine, the per-cylinder threshold catches one cylinder on its own.

VIN lock

Each tune is bound to one vehicle through a fingerprint of its VIN, set automatically when the patch is applied — it is not edited by hand. Until the fingerprint is set, or if it does not match the car's VIN, torque limits, spark offset, pops & bangs and Launch Control all run stock.

Flashing the patch

Adding or removing a patch requires a Full Flash. Changing the parameters afterwards is calibration only and goes out as a CAL Flash — see CAL Flash and Full Flash.
